My first stab at exercise post lung surgery

Day 43 – Recovery

14th May 2018

I woke up early and raring to go to Balance Festival at the Old Truman Brewery. I booked the tickets last December before all of my surgery and pain and I was determined to give the classes a try even if it would be hard to see where I am fitness wise.

I got the 8:28am to Victoria and headed to my old stomping ground in Spitalfields. I love it around there 🙂 I started with a 25min Box HIIT class with Another Space!! It was intense. I spoke to the instructor and told her about my surgery and she said to stand to the side at the back so I can take a break when I needed or do what I could.

It was a fab class very high power and speedy. I sat down a few times on the mat work, my shoulder hurt a bit and my breathing was laboured at times. I was proud that I got through it being the first workout I have tried since surgery apart from walking. I had a wander around and bought some dairy free yoghurt, vegan protein and some oat and hazelnut drinks and a yoga top which I loved.

I then had Kin Yoga at Triyoga. Again I spoke to the instructor and said I’d do what I could. Yin yoga is about stretching and holding the poses for a long time it really helped to stretch out my torso and legs it was amazing and the 45mins felt really quick! I felt a bit exhausted after the first class let alone the second. I went to watch part of a talk with the #Girlgains group Zanna, Tally & Vic. They mentioned something about what’s important in life and it made me think I’m not 100% I need to go home. I left straight away, I decided to miss my Barre class, miss seeing Rosie and Grand Designs Live to go home and look after me and put me first.

I bought a Nude espresso on the way to the station and bought a falafel in pitta for my lunch. I got home around 3:30pm and was wiped out and very sore. I took some tablets and had a hot water bottle and just relaxed on the sofa. I am glad I took time for balance today. It’s the first step in looking after myself better.

We had a lovely vegan curry and then early to bed.

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Thanks so much for taking time out to read my story. I share my story and my journey on Instagram to build awareness about Chronic Illness and endometriosis.

Diagnosis of thoracic endometriosis has been a life changing experience with very little information out there.

Building a community of people who share their own experiences has made a huge difference to me and to others dealing with similar symptoms.

The idea was to support others on their path to diagnosis and treatment with shared experience.

Look after yourself!
